o ya sorry.  I have a intel 845g/gl onboard graphics controller and i was woundering is there anyway to have full support without haveing ot download xfree86.  when i use dsl its only like 8 or 16 bit color. and the resolution is set correctly my graphics are just not supported by xvesa.

You could try running xsetup, or manually edit the .xserverrc file.  I couldn't say whether or not it would be successful...on my machine the default of 1024x768x32 is ideal, but i suppose some hardware just will not do 32 with xvesa?

no its not the board its new enough for 32 bit(i've run xp and simplyMEPIS on it fine) its just that my board is not supported i wounder if there was a patch (or other manual code ect.)And yes the reso. and depth are both set right.

Most other distros use a full X server.
This is way to big for DSL's 50 MB limit.
We use K drive/Tiny X X server.

You can use the command

Xvesa -listmodes

To see the modes that your video card can support using  Tiny X

If you want Mepis like X, then use XFree86.dsl extension with DSL.

Intel 845g series are horrible graphics chips

They only properly support 640x480x16bit color for VESA modes, so you can boot with:

dsl vga=normal xsetup

and choose Xvesa and 640x480x16bit

Then use ALT-LeftClick to drag your windows down until the title bar is in view and then maximize them.

Or install XFree86 and use the i810 driver
