Is there a step-by-step or howto on getting DSL 2.2 working with an old Toshiba 300CT laptop that has a 1024x600 resolution screen? Regular xvesa treats it as 1024x768 and the bottom 128 pixels get chopped off (and it doesn't pan). What do I have to reconfigure to use the actual screen resolution?

'Xvesa -listmodes' doesn't show a matching resolution.

Do I need to switch to using something other than Xvesa or can I do something like convince it not to use those bottom 128 pixels?

I should also point out that this ancient box actually does a damn fine job running DSL. It's definitely a one-app-at-a-time sort of machine but it really does work nicely. Way to go folks!

Load the XFree86.dsl and follow the 2 instructions in the info in MyDSL

You will need to edit or create the text file called "XF86Config-4"

Once you have done that make a backup of the DSL settings and restart X.

You will need to get your laptop's specific settings. They may need some tweaking but to get started look at the "Display" settings on this page:

In particular you are looking for information relating to the "ModeLine" and "Modes"..

See section "3.3 Graphic Card" and below.

The SVGA driver should work...

There are some limitations to the XFree86 package here but still worth a try?

Try running Knoppix and copy the x config file. Easy way to configure. (Note, I also used Knoppix config file for Fedora Core 4 installation on laptop).
