I am trying to use Polish letters in DSL. ( ż ź ć ń ą ś ł ę ó ) It also seems they don't want to show up on this forum either, even though I typed them correctly on this windows box. (except for the correct ó )At boot I type lang=pl because that's what it says to do. This doesn't seem to do much, except when I press the ALT-GR key and one of the letters, it shows a strange character, but not the one it is supposed to. Here's the really strange part though. In Skype, when I type a message with the ALT-GR and a Polish letter, I get the correct Polish letter. So far Skype seems to be the only program that I can type correctly in. Open office can display the letters fine, but I can't type them. I had a play with xkeycaps but that didn't work for me. It's almost as if the system knows it's supposed to be Polish, but can't input them, except as I said for Skype. Surely I don't really have to get carried away and install Xfree86 do I? Ok, well I got it sort of going with xkeycaps, but it said to add a line to the login script to make it permanant. Where is this login script it speaks of?

Depends on what kind of line... but I'm guessing in one of the ~/.bash* files.Skype probably works because it uses the QT library. Posted by Spice_Boy on July 15 2006,21:42
Ok, got it all sorted. I just added that line to the .xinitrc and it seems to work fine (I think).I'm not too up with the library part of skype (still learning) but at least now I can use the letters in messengers and emails. It's all good :-) Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on July 17 2006,06:11
If you don't mind, could you paste what you have in ~/.xinitrc just in case others have this issue?
