GTK theme installation?

Every GTK theme that I download is loaded with PNG files.  Apparently, none of DSL's included GTK themes use any PNG files, not even 'pixmap', which spews errors when selected.   The same errors show when I try to load one of my png-laden themes.   What do I need so that this'll work?

That depends on what the errors are.  It's nearly impossible to say what the solution is unless the symptoms are described in greater detail than "Doc, my leg has some sorta pain".

My initial guess is that you might need to install the images themselves. Maybe the themes point to images that are assumed to be installed into gtk, but those images may have been removed from DSL. It's a very small distro, and images waste a lot of precious space.

Another guess is that images have been disabled, but i would assume that there would not be errors in that case (if gtk were properly written).

I remember I had to grab a couple libraries and modules for some to work.

i.e. you could try grabbing libpng

No, that would have been "Help, linux looks all ugly".   My post was more like "Doc, my leg hurts right here when I do this exact thing."

And thank you thehatsrule, you're a good doctor for correctly diagnosing.   Turns out, DSL likes to include pixmap GTK themes but no pixmap library to support 'em.   I grabbed that, now I have to figure out all this GTK+, GTK1, GTK2 business AND see why dillo doesn't like a random handful of my GTK themes and loads sans widgets.

Digging this up after finally actually looking into the problem....

It's still a bit of a mystery, but it seems to be related to gdk-imlib, imlib, or the pixmap theme engine.  Oddly enough, I'd replaced those libs, as well as libpng, with versions I knew to work on another system...still didn't work.

However, some pixmap themes do work.  I've tried a couple of themes (Quiet and QNXCompliment) that set images directly rather than going through the pixmap engine, and they work fine.

Basically I think the main issue is as I'd mentioned in another thread...Imlib is a pain in the butt and tends to make things unnecessarily complicated.
