How do I enable or create desktop icons.  I have run "mkdesktophdicons" several times over without any success and Fluxbox although permitting icons in the configuration shows none on my desktop. Could I get some help ASAP ???

right-click enhance?
Posted by Frano on Sep. 22 2003,23:00
For some unexplainable reason, when I right-click, there is no "enhance?" menu option.  Isn't there a command-line way or configuration method to solve this problem?  ???

Are you sure? right click and at the bottom of the menu it should be a text that says: "Enhance?" It must be there! If not i don't know...  :(

Since Enhance is not on the rightclick menu
do this!
Right click
select rxvt or bash console
type enhance
this will show the taskbar and
again enhance
this will show the icons

you can add icons?
how? I am very new to linux, but started running a HD based install, infact my boss likes this linux so much, we may end up using it ALOT.. and all that that implies...
Another question i have, may have been answered, I think i read somewhere in the DSL doc's that it has FTP server capabilities? any one know how to walk me thru setting that up?

I am now wondering if my version of DSL (v. 0.4.x) does not support icons since I cannot run enhance, I cannot locate it in any of the "/*bin" folders and it does not appear in my menu. The closest I have come to seeing icons are two folders which reside on my system after I run "mkdesktophdicons" - "/Desktop" and "/gnome-desktop" and a third named "/icons" in some deep directory.
Could any1 provide me with the enhance script and any other dependent files so that I can install or upgrade DSL? Please.

What dsl version are u using?
Posted by Frano on Oct. 03 2003,16:23
I am not exactly sure which version it is, but I downloaded it about a month or so ago, so it's probably version 0.4.3 or as I would presume, higher. In any case however, can I upgrade my version to facilitate the extra features.

P.S. - The DSL was installed to my hard drive.

My DSL version is 0.4.2 - but I don't know how to tell it to display desktop icons or compile my DOS emulator or WINE.

Could anyone tell me if:
1) I could easily upgrade DSL without another install.
2) How I can get it to display desktop icons. (When I use rxvt and run enhance, it says it cant find this command)
3) other linux components can be easily installed on it.

I need this info ASAP!!!

the point is just your version of dsl

only from 0.4.5 (i seem to remember) you get the "enhance" script.
so the only way is to upgrade...
or to get the script...

So how do I get the enhance script? Is there someone who can send the file to me please? And how do I upgrade DSL since it's already been installed on my hard drive? Do I have to re-download the entire new version 0.5.0?

My email address is Frano_d@yahoo.co.uk.

Yes you do need to download the whole thing.

Then wipe out your hard disk install and re-install from scratch.
