Hello,

I am using an old laptop (ThinkPad 760XD with graphic Trident CYBER9385). In some posts is XFree86 V3 recommended. Which older version of DSL has XFree86 3.3.x? So I can download from archive.

Then I have to edit the xf86config file. But when I start DSL from CD-ROM, this file /etc/x11/XF86Config is read-only. How can I test different parameters?

Thanks in advance

Harald

As far as I know all versions of DSL uses the lightweight Xvesa X-server. And I think the myDSL XFree package is version 4.x.

On DSL Wiki page there is recommended for older hardware the xf86_svga server from XFree V3. But how to install XFree86?

The lightweight server family is TinyX
The XF86 package in mydsl is 4.3

Since DSL by default only uses TinyX, it does not use the XF86Config file, and so it does not exist.  Don't know where you found it?

I have heard there is a XF86 V3 dsl package somewhere, but I have not seen it.  Perhaps you could make one if no one has it?

I found it here:

On the bottom of the page:
For older hardware (e.g. WD90C24 chipsets) the xf86_svga server from XFree V3 can be used with a suitabe xf86config file. See the post XF86_SVGA[3] in the forums for more details on this option. A valid xf86config file for your system will be required.
