I tried customizing my DSL keybindings in the same manner as I have in SuSE, editing ~/.Xmodmap to add my windows and multimedia keycodes.  It seems to have no effect.  Is there something different about xmodmap in DSL?  Perhaps I need to change my keyboard type?

dull suggestion but did you exit xwindows then re-enter, maybe it is like the key layout change and needs to be loaded before the xwindow is started by adding to the .xserverrc file.

purely suggestion but may be worth a shot...

DSL uses the Xvesa X-server and I think it "inherits" the console keyboard setup, so it may be that ~/.Xmodmap isn't used at all.

that was my point above the xserverrc feeds commands to the x window from the console, so by adding it there should in theory make the keys usable within X..... just like keyboard changes......

Yeah...that's the same thing I suggested to someone else yesterday when he had a problem with his keyboard in DSL

I think I know what's up.  The keyboard layout is a different one than I use in suse.  Where DSL it's "us", in suse it's something like "us 105".  Xev showed me that the multimedia keys aren't recognized, and the windows keys have a different keycode.

The multimedia keys aren't too important to me right now, but I think I can get it working by switching the Win-key keycodes to the correct number in .Xmodmap.  If not, I'll be back here =o)

Thanks.

ummm....no I haven't.  I saw "us" at the top of the list a scrolled down a little bit to see a lot of non-us layouts.  I guess that's what I get for being hasty....
