I am trying to run DSL 3.3 on an HP Brio BA200 with Intel 810 chipset, 256M memory.

DSL boots fine into X, but as soon as I move the mouse the pointer gets stuck in the lower left of the screen. It is barely visible and can be briefly moved slightly into the open, but quickly retreats to its hiding place. This occurs running as either live CD or HD install.

Boot parameters seem to be vga = normal noacpi nodma noscsi nopcmcia ...............

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John B.

What sort of mouse do you have - ps/2, usb, touchpad, or?

I apologize for leaving out that bit of info. It is a PS 2. I have tried several mice to make sure the hardware was not the problem.

Normally no issue with PS/2 mouse unless loose cable.
How about posting the output from

showbootcodes

cat .xserverrc

cat /etc/sysconfig/knoppix | grep -i mouse

Does the torsmo monitor in the upper right hand corner display a high cpu rate?

roberts,

CPU and memory useage are both very low. I won't be at the PC again until Monday. I will relate the result of the other three items then.

Thanks,

roberts,

When I try to get to a character based terminal (Ctl-Alt-F2) it boots into X with the same problem. Is it possible to get to a terminal in X with just the keyboard and no mouse useage? Then I would be able to look at config files, etc.

You could start without X (i.e. boot into runlevel 2 or 3 with the corresponding cheatcode) or kill X to get back to the tty (ctrl alt backspace).  I'm not aware of any default keyboard shortcuts.

showbootcodes

root=/dev/hda1 quiet vga=normal noacpi noapm nodma noscsi frugal

cat .xserverrc

exec /usr/bin X11/Xvesa -mouse "/dev/psaux",5 -screen 1024x768x32 -shadow -nolisten tcp -I &>/dev/null

cat /etc/sysconfig/knoppix | grep -i mouse

MOUSE_FULLNAME="Generic PS/2 Wheel Mouse"
MOUSE_DEVICE="/dev/psaux"

The display is a little odd. It shifts between normal and soomething that looks like a color "negative". I have experienced this previously and the mouse worked fine, so I don't think the display issue is related to the mouse problem.
