Nice to see the fluxbox-dev mydsl extension in the normal mydsl area ![]() Just a quick question, if I install it and run it, will all my icons and other things like the slit be there or will the desktop need reconfiguring ![]() BTW well done milkshaw Posted by clivesay on Sep. 16 2004,18:56
My experience is that your icons and such will be fine. If you made any changes in the init file, you will have to make the same changes in the init-dev? file. ( I can't remember the exact name).Chris Posted by mikshaw on Sep. 17 2004,01:34
The extension was made in such a way that it is almost totally removed from the included version....it uses a different init, keys, slitlist, groups, and even a different xinitrc. It uses the same menu, for convenience and to work with mydsl, but otherwise it will not touch your current setup.Since xtdesk is a separate application all your icons will be the same, and the new xinitrc is created from a copy of your existing xinitrc, so all your startup applications should be the same...dock apps might be loaded in a different order, though, since it uses a different slitlist. Other settings, such as clock format, toolbar/slit visibility, style, etc (anything listed in ~/.fluxbox/init) will not be carried over from fluxbox stable. If you're wondering why the init is not a copy like xinitrc, there are some changes to some settings in fluxbox dev which wouldn't work by just copying. I'm considering putting together a fluxbox-0.9.10 (stable styles work properly with the newer release), so maybe I'll get something working where the original init is copied and edited to reflect the changes. |
