It's pretty annoying to be used to the scroll function...have a mouse with a scroll wheel...and not be able to make the damned thing work.

my last real attempt was here:

needless to say it didn't work.

any suggestions?

Did you have any luck using gpm?

It should work if you set your repeater to IMPS/2 protocol and changing the device name in you .xserverrc file.

i didn't have any luck the first time....but ok...i'll try it again...uh...but change the device name to what??

You need to do one of two things...

Either re-symlink "/dev/mouse" to the gpm device name (I don't remember the exact syntax  /dev/gpm0 ??? I dunno)  or refer directly to /dev/gpm0 in the .xserverrc command line.

Also, I believe that the number of buttons (IE: /dev/mouse,X)  should be set to 5, IE: /dev/gpm0,5

i got mine working, but in xfree86, not xvesa. I have two mice, mapped to two cursors on a laptop, just to really confuse the issues
