resolution and refresh rateForum: X and Fluxbox Topic: resolution and refresh rate started by: alexrait1 Posted by alexrait1 on Oct. 30 2004,09:21
Hello, I have a sony SDM73H Lcd monitor (17 inch). The only way I can see console messages is if I pass the vga=normal parameter when booting. The other problem I can't resolve yet is how to change the vsync and hsync of the XF86Config file? I tried to use the cheatcodes as I know from knoppix: hsync=80 vsync=75, but alas, the X does not appear, and instead I get an error form my monitor. If I quit to console and edit the XF86Config file I see that the refresh rates are 160 which is higher than I can use.. I am absolutely not sure the X server on DSL uses XF86Config file, yet I would like to know what might be a solution to that. Do I have to install DSL to get it working right? I've seen a post below about the refresh rate, yet I wonder if it was fixed already Rait Alexandr. Posted by skaos on Oct. 30 2004,14:27
Unless you have installed a full X-server like XFree86 or X.org, there is no XF86Config file. DSL uses the lightweight Xvesa X-server (settings are stored in .xserverrc in each user's home directory) and unfortunately there is no way to set frequencies. For more info about Xvesa see:< http://www.xfree86.org/current/Xkdrive.1.html > < http://www.xfree86.org/current/Xvesa.1.html > (Pease note that the freq setting doesn't work.) Hi.The 60 hz refresh via my SiS 6326 drove me mad. I have a Trident Cyberblade card in a work machine - gets 85 hz on different monitors. Got myself a $10 Trident Blade 3D 9880 card (8mb) - no flicker, so must be 72+ hz. This is a cheap no-mess solution. Dave |
