Refresh rate (again)Forum: X and Fluxbox Topic: Refresh rate (again) started by: Downsouth Dave Posted by Downsouth Dave on Dec. 11 2004,09:25
This distro has only ONE major problem - 60 hz refresh rate.If we could have the option of 56 (old pc) or 72 (new pc), that would be great. I have a Trident Blade 3D (1998) which runs 800x600x16 at 75 hz, but when it dies - then what? Otherwise, this is a fantastic distro, a real rose amongst some genuine thorns! I have tried more than a dozen distros - some don't print; some don't surf; and some just don't go. Most are junk. Vector & Mepis sort of go. My Billious mates laugh! have a look at xserverrc (cannot remember the location but probably in your home dir) i think you can set that to use a different refresh rate.welcome to the forums Posted by skaos on Dec. 14 2004,15:29
Sorry, that refresh rate setting doesn't work. The only way to fix it, is to install XFree86 or X.org on a hard disk installation of DSL.

Hi.Thanks folks. Some time ago, someone was working on a .dsl package for xfree - has that project been discontinued? regards, Dave Posted by skaos on Dec. 17 2004,11:01
Dave, maybe the following thread helps: < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....;t=3760 >

K... How do i configure it and how do i know it's installed? Couse it doesn't seem to work..

if you find a XFree86_config_files/ directory in your /home/dsl, then XFree86.dsl is installed.you have to do some changes to config files. 1. copy XFree86_config_files/XF86Config-4_vesa to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 2 copy XFree86_config_files/.xserverrc_for_XF86 to /home/dsl/.xserverrc 3. if you run livecd or usb-install add /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to the filetool.lst 4. windowmanager-exit (from the menu) 5. type: exit at the console you will hardly see de difference. in a shell-bash (from the menu), type: top one of the running proccesse is: XFree86 if you did the filetool.lst and backup/restore the next time you boot you should be running xfree86 i assume i know what filetool.sh is for and know howto backup/restore your settings! Hi Henk.Good job! On my 0.8.3 HD install, I lost functions (not vital - wheelmouse & mount app), but now my old eyes aren't flickered to shreds. I put the files in /root & /etc/X11. regards, Dave (54) Posted by henk1955 on Dec. 27 2004,12:40
which XF86Config do you use?you could do some experimenting with it:
may give you some idea where to look for. Posted by Arto on Dec. 27 2004,13:22
tnx Henk, it worked, i have XF86 installed now, but i still can't get a higher refresh rate..

lookup this section of XF86Config-4 find the VertRefresh AND HorizSync for your monitor both these values aa used to calculate the max refresh rate |
