change background

I am a newbie I have a hard disk install of dsl 8 and want to change the background/wallpaper to a picture of my own.
could some on give me really detailed directions as to how to do this

Sure..

1. Click the "search" button in the upper right hand corner of this page..
    ( a search form will pop-up onscreen.. )
2. In the "Search Keyword" box, type in the word " background"
3. In the "Forums" box, select "all open forums"
4. In the "Search From" box, select "the beginning"
5. Press the "search" button at the bottom of the form..
  ( many pages of topics containing info about background will appear )
6. Read thru the threads containing your keyword.
  ( many other users have probably already asked that question)
7. Seek answers. There may be several ways to do this,
   and even more ways to save your settings once you have made changes.

command line to change background is bsetbg -f /pathtoyourbackground

You can find details on the "how to start (dillo )"
