This may sound dumb but I was looking at fluxboxs site today & realized it normally does *not* have icons on the desktop (correct me if i'm wrong).  So I got to wondering how DSL does this neat trick?  I looked round flux & DSl's site but didn't find an answer.  If someone would kindly point me in the direction on where to get info on how DSL does this cool trick, i'd be very grateful as at some point i was considering installing flux ontoa diff distro as my WM of choice.

Ty in advance

The icons are kept in a folder called .xtdesktop. you can find it at /home/dsl/.xtdesktop. It is a hidden directory so open emelfm and click on the "H" in the upper left corner of the pane to see it. If you search the forum for 'icons' and/or '.xtdesktop' you will find a wealth of information.

clivesay, I think aveline is asking HOW DSL manages to get icons on the desktop, as there isn't anything in the standard fluxbox environment to do this?
I did a bit of a search and didn't turn up anything either, though I had thought I saw it mentioned somewhere.  Don't think it's part of standard fluxbox as such, some extra desktop thingie?

tick tock...
OK, searched google for fluxbox desktop icons, may possibly be XtDesktop (which would explain the folder name) or FbDesk, which also sounds familiar.  Someone will need to correct me on this, but it's a starting point.

You are correct.  xtdesktop is a separate application which handles the icons with no direct connection to Fluxbox.  It is started with the enhance script, which is started from xinit (.xinitrc)

ah most excellent!!!  Ty both very much.  I was pretty stoned on painkillers when I wrote out this post and since I am off of them today, I thought I'd check back to see if what I wrote was even legible!  Again many thanks to you both.  Least now I know what to look at if I want flux on another distro. :)
