[dsl0.9.3]Xvesa & firefox : keyboard troubleForum: X and Fluxbox Topic: [dsl0.9.3]Xvesa & firefox : keyboard trouble started by: fr-greg Posted by fr-greg on Mar. 02 2005,10:26
[ my very awful english translation below]when i modify my .xinitrc, to desactivate fluxbox, & use firefox instead like that $ cat .xinitrc /usr/local/bin/firefox/firefox $ startx after a while (on p166mmx ;-) ) firefox goes on, but i cannot use my keyboard, no trouble with my mouse. for example, if i want to type 'google.fr' in the url bar : nothing occurs Note if in the .xinitrc, i put xterm instead firefox , then startx, i can write some text in the xterm (/usr/local/bin/firefox/firefox to !!!) might be something buggy in firefox. I seem to recall hearing about similar behavior in other distros as well. I'll check this out in a little while and see if i can recreate the problem.

I tried it out and got the same result as you. Seems to be a bug in firefox maybe? Also noticed that some of the firefox dialog boxes don't have a close button....no way to close them without a window manager =o( Posted by green on Mar. 02 2005,23:52
I, also, have that problem from time to time. Most of the time, it is remedied by using alt+tab to change between windows, maybe even have to do it a few times. I know that is not a technical solution, but it works for me.

you can't switch between windows if you have no window manager running =o)

I suppose mozilla got the same trouble (it the same base) & if that web browser can have Menu/key mice/Shift or other key control disable (hope my english no too bad to understand) Posted by fr-greg on Mar. 03 2005,07:55
I went to test firefox under Debian 3 testing, with firefox 1.0, and i haven't got this troubleI've try to install firefox 1.0 on DSL, but i've a gtk error at the start of Firefox (libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0) Maybe my trouble is a firefox 0.9 bug, or Xvesa ? |
