Hello,
Recently got anew PC along with a Nvidia GF6600GT GFX card, so can finally play games under DSL Did HDD install of DSL0.9.3(with SATA support [thanks Tronik])
I grabbed the XFree86.dsl and ke4nt kindly supplied me with a later version of nvidia.dsl...
Installed xfree.dsl and edited the XF86config-4_nvidia_accel script for my monitor settings and the usual change 'nv' to 'nvidia'. Copied this this over the original xf86config script, even compared it against one clivesay supplied...
Removed Code Sample | /usr/X11R6/libGL.so.1 | etc.. as ke4nt said they conflicted with the ones supplied in his znvidia.dsl package.
Did 'startx' in the console and got this error page:

Even copied the libGL.etc... files from clivesays package...
Any suggestions on why its not going
P.S.: Sorry for the long post, best thought putting the entire error log in.

This is just a guess, but it looks like there might be a problem with this newer nvidia package. Have you tried the original one to see if that works?
Also...if you have a harddrive install, why are you bothering with the myDSL extensions? apt-get install!

Quote | Removed Code Sample /usr/X11R6/libGL.so.1 etc.. as ke4nt said they conflicted with the ones supplied in his znvidia.dsl package.
Did 'startx' in the console and got this error page: |
I may have been unclear in my instructions.. Here is what to check for .. After installing the two extensions, looking inside /usr/lib, you have these files .. libGL.so libGL.so.1 ligGL.so.1.0.7667
libGL.so symlinks to libGL.so.1 but...sometimes, I see libGL.so.1 symlinking to libGL.so.1.2.0,( XFree version) and not the libGL.so.1.0.7667 I gave you to test. So, remove the libGL.so.1, and resymlink to the correct one. ' ln -s libGL.so.1.0.7667 libGL.so.1 '
There are some libGLU.so.1 files in /usr/X11R6/lib , but I don't see any libGL.so.1 files in /usr/X11R6/lib .. Leave any libGL files in /usr/X11R6/lib alone, as they seem to be ignored by NVidia ..
Also, another post recommended to remove this file, if necessary. /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.a
Hopefully, one or both of these solutions will have your NVidia accel graphics working fine..
SaidinUnleashed has tested this config on a HD install of DSL for me, with a similar graphics card as you have, and all was OK ..
I've also made a combination Xfree/NVidia.dsl that combines all of the necessary parts of each into one installable extension. Testing continues..
Let me know..

Found out why I couldn't find any of those files...
The new files create by 'mydsling' ke4nts package went into ramdisk ! Copied the libGL.so... files to the HDD.
Proceeded to remove /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 and symlink to 1.0.7667 and removed that glx.a as suggested. Tried startx again and its saying it can find the modules of 'glx' or 'nvidia'.
Later I will try copying over all of the files that were created in the ramdisk.... Thanks for help so far.

oops?
Did I send you the wrong one?
I thought I had updated those links to install to /usr/lib not /ramdisk/usr/lib ( I'm sure I did. )
I thihnk I sent you an earlier version of my testing package.
There were some other changes to make THAT version work in a HDInstall.
1. open up /lib/modules/2.4.26/modules.dep with beaver Replace all instances of /KNOPPIX/ with / Save modules.dep
2. Run update-modules.
Let me know.. If you still have issues, I'll resend you one that works in a HDInstall here. Note: ..that version is plug&play in a LiveCD/Frugal .. only HD issues..

Just to check, for step 1 is that be applied on the files created in the ramdisk (later to be moved to the hdd) or the ones already in my hd install?

Ke4nt,
Hmm, I tried what you suggested and still no go
Please can you send me the 'hd' version of the package?
P.S.: Im using kernel 2.4.2.67 due to Troniks rework of DSL0.9.3 to include SATA.
Posted by ke4nt1 on Aug. 23 2005,17:33
That explains it..
NVidia drivers are compiled against the running kernel. These ONLY support the 2.4.26 kernel in DSL. ( the patched knoppix 2.4.26 kernel )
If you can get the kernelsources from Tronik, you may be able to compile it yourself.
Sri.. All my tests so far have been with DSL proper.

Oh well! I was planning on giving compiling the nvidia drivers a go. Thanks for you help anyway.
P.S.: Better try compiling the nfoce3 drivers as well! Then will be able to ahve sound and onboard NIC going
