right click menus are very good and fast, but is there any way to put a traditional "start menu" in fluxbox? thanks in advance... Posted by mikshaw on Aug. 23 2005,14:26
Here's one way:< http://fbpanel.sourceforge.net/ > I haven't tried it...seems like a lot of overhead (gtk2) for a little useability. Posted by Your Fuzzy God on Aug. 23 2005,15:25
You could also try ICEWM in the WM_Apps section of MyDSL. However, installing a different window manager can make your computer kinda screwy.

??How is that? If the window manager is properly built, and properly installed, there should be no "screwy" involved....that is as long as said window manager is not intrusive and does only the job of managing windows & launching applications. I believe you're thinking of MS Windows =o) Posted by Your Fuzzy God on Aug. 23 2005,20:25
I have tried ICEWM on DSL several times. One attempt made my icons disappear two at a time every time the computer was reset. With the .DSL of IceWM, there is a known problem with not being able to change the themes and the default theme looks like windows 95. The only time I ever got ICE to work properly was with a HD install without using the .DSL. I just think installing ICE is probably more trouble than it is worth, when Fluxbox is so nice.

ah...I see what you mean now. My initial thought was that you were making a general statement that screwiness was an inherent problem with installing a different window manager. I see now that it is a problem with a specific package of a specific window manager. As I said, "If the window manager is properly built, and properly installed" there should be no trouble ("properly built" means both coded properly and compiled properly). It sounds like there is a problem with the IceWM myDSL extension, or possibly a problem with IceWM in DSL, or even a problem with IceWM itself.
