I want to add my own  fluxbox background to a DSL remaster, can anyone help me?

In a default DSL setup, the background is set from /usr/share/fluxbox/styles/Elefanter (the file linked to /usr/share/fluxbox/styles/default).
You could change the background set in the rootCommand line of this file.
You could add a rootCommand line to /etc/skel/.fluxbox/init, which would override the background in any subsequent style.
You could include a different Fluxbox style into the remaster and point /etc/skel/.fluxbox/init to that (the "styleFile:" line).

I have tried to copy the background I want into the background file but the file system is read only. I don't know how to get around this. I loaded dsl toram and tried to use the makemydsl script.

As far as I know, that script remasters the ISO only, for adding myDSL apps to the CD...it does not change the filesystem (someone please correct me if i'm wrong).  If you want to remaster the filesystem you'll need to mount and copy the contents of the KNOPPIX file, make your changes, then re-create the KNOPPIX file and the ISO file.  I've never done this so i can't help you with it, but there is at least one thread on these forums specific to remastering the filesystem.

If you don't want to do that, there are other ways to get your files to work with the default KNOPPIX file.  The easiest would be to make your changes to /home/dsl/.fluxbox/init, including a new background in /home/dsl/.fluxbox/backgrounds (and a style in .fluxbox/styles if necessary), and back those files up.  You can then add the backup to the root of your new ISO (you might want to rename it so you can utilize the backup/restore feature later..renaming it will read the file as a myDSL app instead of a backup).  This should restore the backup automatically when you boot from the new CD.

That is what I saw when using the mydsl script. I'll try copying, mounting and editing the KNOPPIX file. Thanks for your help!
