I have an old version of flonix when it used to be free and I was wandering what would it take to use flonix' window desktop manager ICEWM with DSL?.or is it a no-no? Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Sep. 03 2005,01:28
Install one of the icewm extensions and be happy

hmm niether one quite cut it icewm lite makes my mouse sluggish and icewm-full erases my icons I really like to have a WM with a start-button- do not get me wrong I love fluxbox but I am having a hard time selling it to my windows user friends.

Try xfce4... it is fairly light and responsive and has a good balance of usability and looks.

I tried installing xfce via apt-get and some of the unofficial repositories sugested but the broken dependencies were too many.

Could we maybe get an extension made of ftmenu: < http://ftmenu.sourceforge.net/ > or better yet, depending on size, build it into the base iso? Any reasons not to? Posted by cbagger01 on Sep. 04 2005,21:40
Does it work with fluxbox-stable?My guess is that it only works with the lastest unstable version of fluxbox (which has icon support). ICEWM is lightweight enough to use on most computers. You may need to tweak the installation a little bit to work better with DSL but it should work fine. Also, there is a nice eFLTK based desktop environment that should work nicely with DSL and people who are jonesing for a Windows-style user interface. FYI, Fluxbox is more efficient than Windows-style, so your friends should try it for a few days before dismissing it. They might just like it. It is still in the early stages of development but is usable. It is called Equinox and can be found here: < http://ede.sourceforge.net/page/ > |
