Hello All,
I am now to DSL, and an amature at Linux otherwise. I burned myself a copy of the current ISO and am getting an error upon booting up. Everything goes fine until it tries to start or configure (Don't know really sorry) an X server. It errors out stating:

Xinit: No such file or directory.
Xinit: No such process found.

I can execute x and get the screen with the "x" cursor ... so I know that works, however I don't know enough of why this error is happening or how to get the x server configured for fluxbox to run.

In case it matters I am using an AGP GeForce 6800 on an Nforce 2 chipset.

Thanks,

Have you gone through and ran xsetup.sh? I am not sure, but this may help.

Hey thanks for the tip.

I did go through the xsetup.sh and everything was fine.

However upon exiting out and trying to start up fluxbox I get the error

"Basedisplay: connection to xserver failed"

....  ???

So I am still not doing so hot.

Let me ask this, I did this with the intent of install DSL to a 256 mb flash drive my wife gave me.

So once I have DSL installed on the flash drive I can modify it as needed to make it function and have those settings saved.

So I guess what I am asking is if I cannot get into a GUI for DSL is there a way to install it to a flash drive via the prompt? Also of course any tips on how to get my live CD of it working would be great.

Thanks for any help.

nforce chipsets have a known issue with Vesa standards. For some reason, vesa drivers do not work if the ethernet cable is plugged in.

The easiest way around this is to use Xfbdev instead.

At the Boot: prompt, type fb800x600 and choose Xfbdev when xsetup.sh runs.

This sounds like you're trying to start fluxbox directly, but it needs an X server to connect to.  Try the command "startx" instead.

That worked wonders. Thank you very much. I am posting from DSL right now and have already got my thumb drive going.

Thanks again,
