I just installed DSL on a Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop. Everything seems to work fine, but now it's time to learn how to use it. I'm trying to figure out how to add a shortcut to the desktop. I want to put a folder for my personal documents here. I already have the directory set up.
Thanks, Bill

the icons are in /home/dsl/.xtdesktop

Create a file such as newicon.lnk in /home/.xtdesktop

I believe this is the general format, but you can always rename an existing icon and change it to fit your needs.

table Icon
Type: Program
Caption: Documents Folder
Command: emelfm (whatever the path is)
Icon: .xtdesktop/emelfm.gif
X: 272
Y: 263
end

After you save it and make sure you have the .gif file there too you should be able to restart X and it should work.

there's no problem to us, but, for the final user...

There's a dsl-create_icon gui script here:

I haven't used or updated it in a while, so i don't remember what issues there may be with it.  Eventually there should be a better version up there.
