I can't get xwindow to start, tried both xvesa and framebuffer.

With xvesa the system just hangs and with framebuffer outputs:

XIO: fatal IO error 104(Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining, any ideas? thanks

if you installed with grub (cant comment for lilo) there should be several options, try choosing one of the ones with text after it, as oposed to the one that just says "dsl"

I got that and thought my machine had suicided :phew:

nope it didn't work, I tried to boot from the CD with failsafe mode and still get the same error, what can I do? try another distro?

it's a NeoMagic 2200 and monitor 12" LCD TFT 800x600

i have a neomagic too and X starts but the display is corrupt and unreadable

I have similar chipsets on my IBM laptops..

I start out booting the DSL CD with the bootcode

fb800x600 dma

Then, when the xsetup choices come up,
choose xfbdev, 800x600, your mouse, etc., etc..

Works for me..

hi!
on live cd try in boot options F2 and choose "fb800x600" it's work on laptops.
if dsl is installed in HD an boot with lilo, change in lilo.conf vga=788 or 778 don't remember. and execute xsetup.sh to set in framebuffer.
