When dsl boot it found 2 cpu (due at smp) this cause me that my eth0 card does not run. How i can modify the kernel to remoge smp option ? Posted by cbagger01 on Dec. 29 2005,20:44
What happens if you boot with:dsl nosmp at the boot prompt? Posted by mariop31 on Dec. 30 2005,15:11
Hi.Thank's a lot. I put the dsl-2.1RC2 on usb key and boot with it. Yes it's good for "dsl nosmp" DSL find only one cpu. But (yes there is a but) I have the same pb with eth card. Usually I work with an Ubuntu BREEZY and all is ok. The eth card is on motherboard ans DSL recognize a RTL8139 as Breezy, I have an another card (a wireless card RT2500), but with DSL I can't find the good driver. I have burned a cd with dsl-2.1RC2 . When I boot with the cd on the same pc I have many pb, like "errors on cloop partition etc...". If I boot with the same cd on a laptop toshiba DSL freeze when it create /etc/fstab. So I have many pb with this distro. I had try miniknoppix and I have the same pb with smp. I'm going to try one more time miniknoppix on usb drive with nosmp option. So if you have any idea about rt2500, that will be fine. Ciao. Mario (yes I am french but my origine is italian) Grazie mille per tutti. Posted by cbagger01 on Dec. 30 2005,20:13
What does the PCI tab on the System Stats program tell you about your network cards? IE: Vendor ID , Card ID, Manufacturer, Model number, revision, etc?

How about try this. Boot with:dsl nosmp acpi=off Then after bootup, open a terminal window and type: sudo su modprobe r8169 netcardconfig and try using your wired lan for eth0 or possible eth1 Good Luck. Posted by mariop31 on Jan. 02 2006,08:55
First GOOD YEAR.About dsl nosmp acpi=off, if I do that the pc freeze, when I see on the screen only one TUX and then it freeze at usb scanning I had try only dsl nosmp at boot. I run xterm and i I try to use my wireless card with ndiswrapper. It look good but after <> 5 mn the pc freeze(I was on DILLO not Firefox). I am going to try the DSL2.0.iso may be better. What does it mean acpi (I think that enable automatic "recognization" (excuse me) of pci card isn't it? but I am not shure). Posted by cbagger01 on Jan. 03 2006,11:33

Hi.It's the same pb with a later DSL. With the last DSL, it's running everywhere but not on my home's pc. I think it's due that my home'spc is too new. I have an eth gigabit card, with a prescot intel 3ghz, a wireless ovislink (driver RT2500) I think also, that DSL may be run better on my home's pc with a 2.6 kernel. Do you think it's possible to make my owner DSL with a 2.6 kernel??? If yes, how can I do that ? Ciao. And thank's a lot at you. Posted by mariop31 on Jan. 11 2006,06:19
