hi, please bare with me on this.. i tried ubuntu and install webcam drivers through this < https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Spca5xx > i followed the number two instruction, and my webcam works with ubuntu.. is it also possible to compile the spca5xx source code in dsl? ofcourse i would assume it will have a different compile method from ubuntu but is it possible? i really like to use my webcam with xawtv btw, my webcam is logitech quickcam express II.... i guess its not possible but usbview says theres a camera.. but i can't use xawtv.. how is that? xawtv : open /dev/video0 No such device Posted by newOldUser on Jan. 25 2006,17:32
If you do a 'dmesg' command from a command prompt or look at the dmesg tab in System Stats do you see any messages about your camera? If not, unplug it, wait 30 seconds and then plug it back in and look at the dmesg file again. Newer messages should be at the bottom.I've not used xawtv but a while back I added a dsl extention called "motion" that can be used with webcams to capture snapshots. You can find it in MyDSL online. I think it's in the multimedia section. Posted by ber on Feb. 11 2006,11:24
thats exactly what I want to do, and I downloaded that motion extension but it is useless if your webcam is not detected by DSL. I have last stable DSL release on HD installation. 38MB ram, 422MBHD, pentium mmx 166MHz. my webcam is creative notebook PD1171(needs spca5xx driver) but I would use any other webcam model if it is suported by DSL. any help will be very appreciate. thanks. |
