As he didn't come back I have the same problem...

hardware..Pentium 90. green mobo..96 mb ram..(SUsE 6.2 install reports a cpu bug (0xFE??)with this processor but workaround enabled)

All i get at boot (from the floppy) is

Bad EIP value..<0000> (there's an error further up the screen but it scrolls off too fast to make any sense of it)

blah blah (stacks/register dumps(( i can post those later if they help)))

Kernel panic..attempted to kill init!

I did some searching and have a few ideas but most of the info seems to assume thet the machine will boot to get a crash report..This heap doesn't get that far!!

I have a feeling this is hardware related, this machine gave up running windows95!! with various crashes and losing drives etc..

Any ideas?

p.s...sorry about posting in an old thread..I don't like starting new ones..

My buest guess is to try and boot with:

lowram mem=96M

where "96" is you ramsize and "mem" is lowercase and the "M" at the end is uppercase.

also,

failsafe mem=96M

might work.

You might also try the syslinux version of DSL, and/or an older kernel version. Boot with dsl noacpi noapm (or apm=off) noscsi

Thanks for the ideas..

I cracked the problem..old hardware failing (disk controller )

Rebuilt using an old P133 mobo I just had lying around (not even in a box, just under the workbench!) and getting much closer to a fully working machine, lucky this boots off a cd or....

Still some problems but I'm gonna have a go myself first..When I get this wreck up I'll get it online (just to prove that 10 year old hardware does have some use)

Thanks for the help so far.. :D
