I've installed a couple of DSL packages that I no longer use. I'd like to clean up my desktop by removing those no longer needed icons along with a couple of default icons I dont use. How does one go about doing this? I'm using a standard HD install.

The icons are in /home/dsl/.xtdesktop

nooooo. Removing the icons removes only the pictures.
The packages are installed in various places, depending on the type of package.
UCI is the easiest to manage...simply unmount the application.
UNC is something I know very little about, but I understand that it is currently a bad idea to remove them once installed, and they're pointless if you have a traditional harddrive install anyway.
TAR.GZ, just delete the /opt/packagename directory (there may be a config file left over in /home/dsl).
DSL is the most troublesome, because there's no way to accurately guess where the app is installed. You'd need to look into the archive to see what files were installed and remove them manually. The command tar tzf filename.dsl > filename.txt will create a list of files. Keep in mind that it is possible that some files in DSL may be overwritten by a *.dsl extension, so be careful about deleting files.

Sir. Is there any barebone dsl? Meaning only the base system cause remastering is way off me.. I will try to learn it once I got time. But for now I need some stable customize dsl.

It's just the KNOPPIX file, so you'll need to have your bootloader and kernel already installed (I can't remember which DSL version it was built from).

I was working on a stripped-down DSL several months ago, but it was too much tedious work for too little result...wanted to get it down to about 20mb, but it was driving me nuts. So that's on a shelf.
