Hi folks, dsl 2.2b Is there a way replacing text scrolling at booting with a scenery picture? If YES please advise which file I have to edit making this change. URL would be appreciated. TIA B.R. satimis Posted by anaconda on Mar. 10 2006,10:29

The Knoppix system on which DSL was based included an application called "splash", with files apparently residing in /etc/init.d. The code used to trigger splash is still in the knoppix boot script (which means the boot option "splash" is still technically useable), and I'm guessing the kernel will still support it. However, the splash program and its associated files have been removed.I don't know the details of this, but it's my assumption that you could extract the splash files from a Knoppix system and insert them into your own remastered DSL KNOPPIX file. From my tiny bit of experience with bootsplash in other systems, it seems that you might also need to rebuild initrd....that's just a guess. |
