Hi

I'm just getting started with DSL (2.1) on a Dell Poweredge SC420. The server has software RAID 1 and I'd like DSL to find it when it boots.

I've had a root around but can't find any indication of whether the Kernel has raid autodetection compiled in.

Does anyone know the answer to this ?

Thanks in advance, Nigel

If it is Linux software RAID, I would expect it would work.  Even if it was not auto-detected.

However, if it is some other pseudo-hardware-RAID setup like adaptec's "hostRAID", chances are you will need to use the closed source Linux drviers from the vendor's web site.  These drivers usually require a specific linux kernel version, such a certain version of SUSE or Red Hat Enterprise Linux.  Some SUSE kernels are available as a live evaluation CD so you might be able to get at your files with such a disk.

Good Luck.

FYI, I have a couple of motherboards with buit in RAID controllers. One uses Promise, and the other is Nvidia. Since thery both create their RAID by simulating scsi devices, DSL has never had any problem detecting them. You would still need to format them in a Linux file format since DSL does not work happily with NTSF.
