I'm a total noob when it comes to Linux, but I recently got an old machine and decided to mess around with it, figuring some of my server programs would run more stable in a Linux environment, and freeing up some resources on my WinXP machine.

I'm currently running DSL from a Live-CD, and it's the only distro of Linux I've gotten working so far, but one of the programs I'm attempting to run requires Ncurses under Cygwin on a WinXP machine.  I'm assuming the reason it's not running on DSL is probably the same.

So, how would I go about installing Ncurses for DSL?  (Or any other extension for that matter, as I seem to be totally lost in this realm...)

ncurses is already in DSL.  The problem might be that the program was built specifically for Cygwin

No, it actually wasn't.  It was very much written for a Linux environment, and had to be hacked to heck and back to get it to compile on cygwin.  In any case, it would appear that ncurses isn't the issue, so I'll look into it a bit more.  =)
