older versions of dsl with xcalcForum: Other Help Topics Topic: older versions of dsl with xcalc started by: lovdsl Posted by lovdsl on Mar. 27 2006,07:22
I was wondering if I am the only one crazy enough to install dsl on a dx2-66 with the intent of useing as a desktop machine with x. I know that some older versions came with xcalc and wondered if there was a stable older version that may be a better choice on the dx2..that would run jpilot, dia and inagemagick and other dsl extensions from the repository. is anyone running an older version on a similar machine and with what dsl extensions.thanks for any..curious

I don't know about older versions of DSL but I think this is a question of how much memory you have. It may sort of work with 16 MB - 32 would be much better. A hard disk install may also be a good idea.

Thanks..I currently have 48 meg ram..I have dsl 2.2 installed and it runs ok..had to add several dsl extensions for functionality..was curious about older versions and what they included and will run from the repository..I also have dsl installed on a p166 with 48 meg ram which runs very nicely..but am still wanting to improve the dx2 install. wondered if others were wanting to make use of old machines and what they discovered. thanks.

If you want to try a really old version with a different kernel version, then give DSL version 0.5.3.1 a try. But that old version doesn't not have the MyDSL system, so you will be unable to easily add mydsl extensions. You can also try DSL version 0.7.2 for an intermediate kernel version. It has early MyDSL support. You should be able to use some *.dsl and *.tar.gz extensions, but UCI is out of the picture. Posted by lovdsl on Mar. 29 2006,00:39
