A buddy of mine installed dsl on my 1GB usb drive, later i deleted it because i needed space but now that max space it can hold is about 50mb. If someone could tell me how to get my other 950mb back it would be greatly appreciated.

what happens when you list what is on the USB drive? Are you looking at it from Linux or Windows?

I assume thats when you plug it into a window box as 50mb equates with the first partition in a dsl to usb pendrive install - just repartition the drive as a single unit.

To repartition it i need to be in BIOS, but for some reason my BIOS won't recognise the flash drive. Any suggestions?

Boot DSL from the livecd disk.

Plug in the USB drive and wait 30 seconds.

Choose

Apps -> Tools -> Install to Pendrive -> USBHDD

The USBHDD install script will repartition your drive back into a single 1GB partition and you will get your space back.

If you want to get rid of the DSL files, boot back into MSWindows and delete them from the USB drive using windows explorer.

In windows you can use disk manager to get it back as well.

that's right, the zip-drive type install does a 50mb in the 1st partition and 950mb in the 2nd partition.

unfortunately windoze can't see the 2nd partition although it's really there. if you like the zip-type install (like me) where you can keep the 50mb image nicely seperate, but still want to access yoou 950mb data in windoze, then you need to find some software to swap the partitions.
