I have installed XDSL onto my Xbox, (native install) and am trying to set it up. I'm not new to computing in general, but pretty new to linux. My aim is to have my xbox sitting under my desk, only connected by network and power cables, and then I can use SSH or VNC to do everything.

The problem is, that at the moment, when I start up, I have to start a load of things, etc...

Currently, I have worked out I need to add things to bootlocal.sh, like this:

/etc/init.d/sshd start
/opt/monkey/bin/banana start

The problem is, that I do not know how to start BetaFTPd, which I want running, but I cannot find the actual program, and I also want to start /home/dsl/inadyn, but when this runs, it just runs in that terminal, and you cannot do anything once started in that terminal, until you stop it (so normally I would use another window to continure) so by adding this, will it halt my booting?

Another problem I am having is I use Static IPs. I have configured this, but it still searches for DHCP at startup, which takes as long to find nothing as the rest of the boot takes, I have also found, that allthough my settings are kept, I have to go through DSLPanel -> Netcardconfig -> set DHCP off -> hit enter through the rest of my settings (which appear to be set, but not used).

I also wanted to know about installation. In windows, everything is (normally) installed to C:\Program Files (or D or whatever if you have extra drives). What is the convention for installing things in Linux?

And that is pretty much it.

Thanks.
Lattyware.

Xbox is not directly supported here, I don't believe. I think you need to go to the DSl for Xbox forum.

Well, it's not really a problem related to the xbox, so I don't see why that matters.

and also, there is no forum, only a wiki, as far as I can find.

Does

/usr/sbin/betaftpd

work?

FYI, you can start something as a background process by adding the "&" symbol to the end of the command, ie:

/home/dsl/inadyn &
