I am using a toshiba tecra 8100 PIII 700mHz with a 10g HD I have win2k pro installed and am using the live cd ver2.3 that came with the book I bought from spidertools.com "DamnSmallLinux Linux Operating System in Less than 50 MB" I am just learning to use linux. I had the same problem in 2.2 downloaded from the net. If you don't click a key after (I think) 10min or less the screen goes blank. I have looked here on this site and else where and I tried all of the tips i could find. Nothing seems to work. DSL is extremeley difficult to use when i must read everything on the screen and sometimes more than a couple times. Is there a simple answer to this screen blanking issue? Thank you in advance, rukarma2 Posted by safesys on April 16 2006,13:49
edit the /home/dsl/.xinitrc file to include the line:xset s off & (I have mine as the firrst line after the 2 initial comment lines) Posted by rukarma2 on April 17 2006,05:12
Thanks safesys but, alas it failed. I tried it in many different location with in that /home/dsl/.xinitrc but none worked I made sure I put the & send at the end and saved it and it was less than five minutes and the screen was blank. It is only annoying cause I have been using MS for too long, again thank you.Gasho, rukarma2 Posted by safesys on April 17 2006,09:12
sounds like it's power management moreso than the screensaver kicking in - so perhaps using the cheatcode at bootup of:dsl noapm and checking your bios settings to see if theres anything lurking in there will help. Posted by outer!s on April 04 2007,22:39

Afaik this screen blanking is someting what I call as "Linux screensaver". It's most propably embedded in kernel. This screen blanking happens with my old computer that has all the powersaving functions disabled. And it's around 10 minute idle when it occurs. I'd too like to know how to set this longer/off. And even better: if it could not just turn screen blank but to stop sending signal to monitor. My monitor regonizes when there's no signal and turns itself off, but if the screen goes just blank my monitor stays powered. I belive there's some GNU tool for this. Or it's just something that you need to set via /proc... Please anyone who knows someting about this, post your ideas/knowledge. Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on April 28 2007,18:54
I've seen some machines where it's controlled only by the bios... maybe yours is one of those?
