Some quick questions, as I am more than a bit pissed. I am getting a fabulous "unmountable_system_volume" BSOD error when booting up my windows machine . I have been able to boot off of the DSL live disk and have been able to mount my HD and can navigate to the files I wish to restore in the shell-- however I cannot move them to my second HD or upload them to my webspace because there are read only. A sudo su chmod isn't doing anything and I am tearing my hair out...I am new to linux (read: I know nothing save basic commands I learned from SSH)

HALP!

You can have root permission using the Emelfm program by launch Emelfm from ATerminal with this command:

sudo su
emelfm

What window version? Most live cd's mount ntfs systems as read only and there is a good reason for that. But what you can do is copy it in dsl and then do what ever you want. So try booting toram and copying the important stuff to that other hd instead of moving them. If that don't work you might have to copy it to dsl first than to the hd. I reccommend "rox" for this because it's simple drag and drop is the fastest way to copy.
