Hi,

I need a FTP server running on my DSL box (which I use as a live-CD with a 'toram' option - not a HD install).  It looks like there is no FTP server among the MyDSL extensions :-(

Short of enabling apt and apt-get installing ftpd - is there an easier way to get a FTP server running on DSL?

Thanks,

VS

PS: I know - FTP is hyper insecure.  But between two local machines it is both safe and very convenient as pretty much any machine will have a FTP client.

vees - DSL comes with a very basic FTP server. (of course I can't remember the name right now...) Try opening the control panel or right clicking the desktop and looking at system...deamons  or something like that. Sorry, I'm not at my DSL machine at the moment.

I did a quick lookup... it's called betaFTP.  I'm not using the most current version of DSL so I'm not sure if it's still included (didn't see it on the packages link from the main page). Here's a link to a recent forum talk about it: < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....betaftp >

It's a very basic ftp server but it will work and can be started at boot time by using cheat codes.

Good luck

Hi newOldUser,

I believe that you are taking about AxY FTP - but that is a client, not a server  :(

I really need a server.  It does not to be super-advanced (what is an 'advanced ftp server' anyway? SFTP?), but it has to be a server.

Any other ideas?

Cheers & thanks,

VS

No, newOldUser is correct. It's betaftpd, and it's a server. It's not really advanced, so not to worry :;):

Great!

I got the BetaFTP server and AxY FTP clients confused. Sorry for being such an ass and thanks for the help!

Kind regards & many thanks,
