How do I set up firefox to show embedded wmv?I can't find a plugin for firefox and linux. I tried installing mplayer and mplayer plugin, but nothing coms up. Thanks for any help Posted by kerry on May 03 2006,21:46
You've got to copy the mplayer plugins from /opt/firefox/plugins to /usr/local/firefox/plugins. I don't know why it installs there but it does.

I believe the idea of having the plugins in /opt was to make it so you could add firefox plugins to a dsl system without running mkwriteable. However, until i just now looked into it, I assumed /usr/local/firefox/plugins was a symlink to /opt/firefox_plugins. So i dunno why it was done that way either. It seems like the only plugin you can add to firefox without making /usr writeable is java.

Done...restarted firefox...nothing, I still get the message "click here to download plugin" :-( Posted by kerry on May 04 2006,09:20
What does your about:plugins say in firefox? You sure it's not flash you need? Go to the flash site and download flash then copy flashplayer.xpt and libflashplayer.so to /usr/local/firefox/plugins. Also did you install the codecpak.dsl so you have the win .dll's.

Flash is working fine, the problem is with the .wmv files embedded in webpages. They play fine if downloaded. Btw I can't see "about: plugins" anywhere in firefox Thanks all Posted by kerry on May 04 2006,09:52
Type about:plugins into the address bar and hit enter.
