I have installed DSL on my hard drive and wanted to install some useful applications, however being a linux noob, I am having trouble installing anything.
I have downloaded the Skype.deb file into emelFM,but don't see any options for installing it. Any help appreciated.  Thanks !  :)

Use the MyDSL GUI (graphical user interface).
1. Just click on the MyDSL icon on the desktop and it will fire right up. (internet connection is required)
2. Select the "Net" category .
3. Find the Skype program on the the list, then click it. An information box will pop up. Click "Download"
The Skype application will automatically download and install itself. Then you will see the Skype icon on desktop.

Tip: You can test Skype immediately calling to "echo123".

Please, post your results using Skype. Is important for me because I have audio problems running Skype on DSL.

Login solution:
Using Firefox browse to the /MyDSL/net directory from any Mirror on DSL Home Page.
Download the skype-0.93.tar.gz file to any directory, for example /home/dsl
Then browser to /home/dsl using Emelfm, select skype-0.93.tar.gz file and press the MyDSL button in EmelFM.
That installs Skype again.

NOTE: The other file present in Mirror, the skype.tar.gz file have the login problem. I guess before you downloaded this when you did use the MyDSL GUI.

Seem nothing happens but if you does click on desktop using the mouse rightbutton,  under "MyDSL" in the desktop menu appears "Skype". You must do click on Skype to launch the program.

YA, piccolo, finally got it installed and working !!  I'm getting minor audio breakups
in the sound transmission, both sending and receiving. I could see sending, cause
I've got a cheap $10 microphone, lol. What kind of audio problems are you having?

Good Drakkor, I'm glad.
I have doing frequent international Skype calls without audio breakups. I have tested many VOIP applications but the better performance is ever using Skype.
I guess that audio breakups may be due to the processing speed of the computer.
My problem using Skype on DSL is a strong humming noise superposed on audio output still using two different sound chipsets (VIA 8233 and Opti 82C931).
Then I switch to ALSA driver and the audio work fine with VIA 8233 chipset. But unfortunately I have not been able to install ALSA with the Opti 82c931 chipset on another computer.

Well I don't know about the processor speed it's P4 2.0 Ghz, using a broadband connection. I will try some calls today to see if it stil breaks up, not really a breakup, just sort of crackling sound, lol. Good luck with your chipset,
and Thank You, so much for your help !!     :D
