Having some problems with my HD, now I have decided to install DSL in the HD, and it have worked just fine (suse freeze in installation... I guess it touche the bad sectors of the disk), anyway...

Im not familiar with this type of distributions like I know is based on debian and knoppix, hey, I have been using rpm and similar... dont know this side of the coin if there is redcarpet for install mono and things like that...

In fact, I have already installed it on HD, then go to apps>tools> Enable Apt, it have done things that I dont know... lol, after that I have put apps>tools>synaptic and have sayed that it have downgraded apt-get, then in synaptic I clicked upgrade system, it have marked 5 items, after that one related with ACPI or PCMIPCMA  or something like that, then the upgrade isn't complete because in the console fail to install this last one update and future "upgrade system" dosent work and say error returned (1)... and then I have reinstalled again from the CD to HD:) ....

That is why I need a first steps in this, for tune the system for easy expansion what things should I install, like for example what mean to upgrade to GNU utils or enable APT??, here my questions that I will like listen more an answer:

1) How to configure kb because the diferent variations of "es" in the system>keyboard havent worked for get the normal acent that I use canci'on, 'arbol... or the braces in the correct place... [][]'''''] displayed when presing "ALT GR", Im from M´exico... or I need set kb and reboot for see the changes??? (aparently now that I have reboot the system I see a change in the kb config). (partially answered).

2) How to use Apt and Synaptic in parallel (my actual impression is that they are exclusive?... why synaptic have downgraded apt-get???).

3) How to install a rpm file, in fact I whant to install eagle < http://www.cadsoft.de/ > because when I do rpm -i eagle-lin-eng-4.16r1-1.i586.rpm it say something like "rpm: Invalid gzip magic".

4) Tought when running the Live-CD the system>mount tool have displayed the item for mount the cdrom, now when it is installed in the HD it only display the partitions of the hd0... I need to mount doing in console "mount /dev/cdrom" and unmounting doing "sudo umount /dev/cdrom", how to put in the application like when in the Live-CD, for only click 1 button?

5) Listening some mp3 of a disc, I see that the sound is of not good quality, then I think I must install something for sound OK???, in what order and what?

6) Being a somewhat noob programmer, I see that I can install gcc, but what about mono? kdevelop and dont know what other IDEs?

7) I have a nvidia card, where to put for download the drivers (ok, I can continue searching the menus, but if you have the point :p).

8) If in myDSL I download the files instead of /tmp to /dsl/mydwldsApps... I see then with .dsl extension... then not rpm or even deb file, how I install them???... and is posible I donwload OO in rpm and install it doing rpm -Uvih *rpm (iirc).

9) In the anterior time, I have tryied install amsn, but havent worked, then I see that I need install FLTK, then I install it, but didn't work, how to install: amsn, geda suite (even from the CD distributed at the page) or from Synaptic.

I think all this is what I whant to know for continue using this distro.

It's usally a bad idea to do a general update because of the cut down nature. For software there is the DSL's in dsl browser made for DSL. Apt- get and synaptic should be considered as a last resort if you can not find what you want in the available dsl's. That is why apt is not setup, it's baiscly for more experinced user's.

So step 1 " install "
Step 2 " selcet what you want from the dsl's "
Step 3 " enjoy "

For all that stuff you want DSL is not the best, it's possiable but your going to have to work at it. For know just get use to DSL.

In case my first answer don't do it for you.

1) How to configure kb< try running " xsetup.sh " from a running system or " dsl xsetup " when booting

2) How to use Apt and Synaptic< < http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man8/apt-get.8.html >
< http://www.nongnu.org/synaptic/ >

3) How to install a rpm file< like any other debian system you must convert the rpm to a deb using alien
(example: alien eagle-lin-eng-4.16r1-1.i586.rpm) alien is not installed in DSL.

4) Tought when running the Live-CD the system>mount tool< try right clicking> desktop> fullenhanced.

5) Listening some mp3 of a disc< check the dsl browser for alternatives and installing codec pack and others.

6) Being a somewhat noob programmer,< again dsl browser

7) I have a nvidia card,< must install XFree86, dsl browser

8) If in myDSL I download the files< when you download there installed, right click> mydsl

9) In the anterior time, I have tryied install amsn, < mydsl browser
