When I rip my CDs the ripping speed is barely 1.5 times faster than normal CD playing speed. My cd drive is at least 12x.
So why ripping is so slow?
I have even created tmpfs for output directory so that It cannot be my HD writing speed that's the bottle neck.

What application are you using to rip?
What is your processor speed?
Did you enable dma for the cd device?

1. Grip with cd paranoia.
2. 900Mhz (Compaq Armada E500)
3. Nope. But This is the only case where my CD-drive is slow...

I'll try to enable dma...

I'm having the same problem here ...
Sony VAIO, external (pcmcia) CDROM.  16x read possible, only getting 1.0-1.4x.

I'll keep browsing the forum.  If you figured this out, I imagine I'm not the only one who wants to know.
