I am totally new to DSL but am willing to try it out.  I am interested in installing DSL on the following hardware:

mobo:  VIA EPIA N10000E
CPU:  1GHz 'Luke' CoreFusion (Nehemiah core) - embedded on mobo
 NB:  VIA CN400
 SB:  VIA VT8237R

1.  I would like to recompile the 2.4.x kernel to take advantage of the above CPU, but I know very little about the 2.4.x kernel.  Does it allow for the VIA C3-2 (Nehemiah core) option when recompiling?

My main purpose for the above hardware is as a multimedia box.  I intend to install MythTV but I have some questions:

2.  I will need to download some of the open source video drivers from the OpenChrome project in order to take advantage of the MPEG2 and MPEG4 hardware acceleration features of the CN400 northbridge.  Does anyone know if installing these drivers is going to cause any problems?  I wouldn't have thought so, but I just wanted to check if anyone has any experience with installing additional/alternative video drivers.

3.  I don't know much about XMMS.  Can it play DVDs from my video store or do I need to download some extensions in order to have this capability?

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

LOL!

No.  I am a n00b.  I know a little about linux but, as you can tell from my questions, not enough to know the answers to them.  Hopefully, someone can help me.

Cheers

1) I don't know.
2) I don't know.
3) As far as I know, Xmms in DSL will not play DVDs.  Mplayer and Xine will, however.  I can't recall whether or not they will play encrypted DVDs.  If not, you will need to add libdvdcss and maybe libdvdread.
