Hi - I'm totally new to running Linux, and I'm after some advice.

I followed the instructions to create a CD using CD Burner XP Pro, performing a "Write Disk from ISO File..." but when I tried to boot from the CD I got an error message: "Disk Error 04 AX=42A8 drive 82" - I have more chance of understanding Swahili.

So I tried running the CD from within Windows.  It starts a cmd task - Loading "index.html"... - and then crashes, stating it cannot find index.html or one of its components.

In Explorer the CD is called KNOPPIX and has two subfolders of isolinux and KNOPPIX.  There is no index.html anywhere.

Have I completely stuffed something up?  ???

Cheers in advance.

Looks like either your downloaded ISO was corrupt, or the burn proccess failed.

Use the md5 files to make sure your ISO is valid.  If it is, then then your burning went wrong.

Yes, it was the ISO image!  I had originally burned DSL-N, which had the correct checksum etc. but just did not work.

I burned standard DSL instead, which ran fine from the Live CD and installed easily to the HD.  Superb!  Does DSL-N not work in the same way?

Now I just need to figure out how to connect to the Internet via my USB cable modem...
