I have a CD related question.

I was recently given an early version DSL on a CD.  I liked what I saw and wanting to find out more I came to your site. I saw a newer version of DSL, downloaded it, and extracted the files then burnt them to a CD. Here is where my issue begins.

I can put DSL version 1.1 in my cd rom, reboot my computer, and DSL loads with no issues.  When I put the newer version of DSL into my cd rom, reboot, windows loads bypassing the cd.

My question is, am I missing something?

I have made changes in my bios to boot from my cd, it still does not work. I have tried to compare CDs to see what is different and I can’t find any. I just don’t know why I can place the earlier version, reboot and it loads, but it will not from the new version I burnt. Can anyone help?

Download "current" and burn the file as an image.  The .iso file contains all the necessary boot information and data.

This means, you should not have to extract anything at all.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

The reason I extracted the files was because the disc that was given to me was like that. When I put that disc booted right up. I did not have to change anything in my bios.

Do you think that once I burn the current ISO file I will need to change my bios setting to get it to boot?

No, your BIOS was already set to boot of your cd-drive - you shouldn't have to change anything since the old cd worked.

Your old cd was burned properly with the boot info, but your new one didn't have it - that's why it wouldn't work.

There might be problem with burning. Did you burn as image file. Normally this stores also boot info into the CD.

Moreover i think you can use the boot images  in DSL downloads and try to boot with the same CD.
