Does anyone know what boot.cat and isolinux.bin does? or how they affect the boot process of DSL?
is there a way to see what's in them?
thank you.

boot.cat is what allows the cd to be bootable.  I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I've heard that it is created by mkisofs when you build a bootable iso.

isolinux.bin is the bootloader program for the cd, as lilo or grub is used on harddrive installs.

They are both binary files, as far as I know, so I don't think you can really see what's in them unless you are proficient with bin/hex editors.

You'll probably find better info by searching the web for bootable CDs or something similar.
