Booting with diskemuForum: Other Help Topics Topic: Booting with diskemu started by: Martin2 Posted by Martin2 on Aug. 09 2006,13:48
For some reason DSL does not boot on my comp (HP Pavilion) while others Linux CDs do.So I found a solution, I use other Linux do boot DSL by using "diskemu dsl.iso". It works perfect if I include /KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX on the cd. It is redundant and I would like to reduce the size of dsl.iso to booting stuff only. I cannot find boot.img. What is a good way to get the boot.img or how to make reduced iso file for booting into /KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX ? Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Aug. 09 2006,15:35
Did you try the syslinux version? The /KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX is pretty much the whole size of the cd. CD boot data is stored in .../{sys|iso}linux/ Posted by Martin2 on Aug. 09 2006,16:28

I will try diskemu on dsl-3.0.1-syslinux.iso > CD boot data is stored in .../{sys|iso}linux/ diskemu cannot boot any of the files in this directory Posted by Martin2 on Aug. 09 2006,17:09
> Did you try the syslinux version? I tried. Same problem - it looks for KNOPPIX directory: "Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem ..." So it looks that I need to use disemu on some small booting image isntead of using the entire dsl iso. There must be some way? Posted by Martin2 on Aug. 09 2006,18:29
I found the way around, I took the boot.img from syslinux and put KNOPPIX stuff in /KNOPPIX directory now I can boot using: diskemu boot.img Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Aug. 09 2006,18:53
Oh, glad you found a solution.I was actually referring for you to try booting off the syslinux cd, but if this works, that's fine. |
