OK, I'll start by taking a large breath. Here is my neverending saga:

Where I am now:
Trying to run the CD from a boot floppy. Screen says, in red:
Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry. Dropping you to a (very limited) shell. Press reset button to quit.

How I got there:

I have a 333mHz Pentium 3 with 256 Meg of Ram
I want to run DSL on it.
It won't boot from any cd.
Using the Wiki I learned how to make a boot floppy, which is working. I made three versions of the CD, burning at 16x, as instructed on the wiki. One version is the regular live cd, borned as non-bootable. One is the Sys version, non bootable, and one is the sys version, bootable, with the boot image pointing to knoppix. Computer is running WIN XP.

I also tried the 'poor man's boot' by copying the KNOPPIX directory in the C: drive.

I am assuming there is something I can type into the command line to fix it, but I have no experience with such a thing, except running dos games when I was 6.

My thinking: I either
1) Am just out of luck
2)Burned the CD's incorrectly (do I need to convert to raw data? or is burning the image sufficient?)

Bear in mind that I am not a computer person, any techy terms I won't understand unless spelled out.

Suggestions?

Huggy,

Try copying both Knoppix and boot directory from the CD.  Then again maybe it can't find Knoppix because it is FAT32.  Have you looked into making a Linux partition on your hard drive?  Also you might search the forum on "CD ROM" and get some tips on how to make DSL see it.  You might try to boot up with blueflops and see if it will recognize your cd rom.  My advice might not be the best because I am new to Linux too.

Fixed. I was incorrectly burning the cds.
