Hi guys,

I tried to create an account on the wiki so I could add some info and it doesn't appear that it's accepting new accounts?  I am assuming that it is intentional (perhaps to cut down on spam).  How do I go about getting access to the wiki?

Thanks,

Andy

Afaik you can talk to John about this, though I know there is a limited amount of wiki users so far...

A workaround is to create a blog and post your info there. It's not in the wiki but its searchable, and it seems that a few users are using it in this way.

You are right, the wiki has been closed due to spam.

I talked to John, and offered to administer the wiki, so that it can be opened up. He's doing some server upgrades so that he can install some anti-spam measures before giving me access.

Hooray! We're getting the wiki back. Posting on blogs is great, or having a personal, unofficial, DSL Wiki, but with the official wiki back, users, especially new users, won't have to leave the DSL web site, and search the whole www, to find an answer to a simple question.

Well, that finally explains...
What I don't understand is: Why doesn't it say so on the "Log in / Create account" page itself? Just a simple message, something like: "It is temporarily impossible to create new accounts [due to...]. Expected back-to-normal by <date>".
This would prevent newbies like me (or would that only be newbies?) from being pushed around in circles.
(In my humble opinion getting to know and understand DSL and the DSL website and getting DSL to work is complicated enough as it is. To experienced users the 'help structure' may seem quite adequate, but as newbie I feel it lacks enough. I'm not far from giving up, and I feel it's this kind of sloppyness that's pushing me over the edge...)

Although this doesn't help in the least, I thought I'd ask....
If you are having trouble learning how to use DSL, how will having a wiki account help you?  If you have questions, the place to go is here in the forums.

This is not to say that I don't agree about the wiki lacking useful structure and information...i just don't see what prompted you to want to add to the DSL wiki when you admittedly don't know DSL.
