Ok here's my problem...

I burned the regular dsl<whatever>.iso and it starts perfectly.  I get to the boot screen (press F2 or F3 for additional boot options.. that place) and no matter what cheat i use the booting stops and my computer freezes in the same place everytime.

INIT: Version 2.78  Knoppix booting
Running Linux Kernal 2.4.26
Processor 0  is M II 3x Core/Bus  Clock 200MHZ
-------------------

It always stops after the CPU check.  I've left it there for a couple hours just to make sure it wasn't just computing and nothing happens.  My comp just freezes up.

I can post my system specs if needed just thought there might be similar cases (although my searches have not been fruitful in the forums), or I am just too noobish to know what's happening.

*EDIT* And i did check md5sum... check was fine. Also, it does this on sys version too.

Did you try failsafe lowram?

Another forum user did use a similar cpu...
and system specs could help :P

Failsafe does the same as above, but lowram works up to a certain point.  It gets past the CPU check and all that jazz.

I select Xvesa server, ps2 mouse, 800x600 rez, and then after not choosing my own DPI and selecting US keyboard i get a scrolling screen of what looks like hexadecimal code (eg.  [<c48172dq>]  )
Then after a few seconds i get an error:
----------------
Unable to handle kernal paging request at virtual address c4000000

printing eip: c0108bf8
*pde= 00000000
---------------

M II 3x Core/Bus  Clock 200MHZ with 64mb of ram and a 2gig HD.

Anyways, I was hoping to get this computer operational but as of right now it is really starting to get on my nerves!! Windows 98 used to run on it... so i would figure that something as small as DSL would.

So is my project hopeless?

Well I meant to use both, like booting with "dsl lowram failsafe"

Some other options to consider:
noapm noapci apci=off (power options)

There's a similar error result in < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....;t=2491 >

You could also see if you can get into the command line, boot with "2" (runlevel 2)

Your project is hopeless only if you give up now ;p
