Owww dooo,

I have been wanting to switch from windows to linux for a while now and have tried a fair few distro's, dsl is the only one i keep coming back to to try and muddle through as the others seem as bloated as windows.

Now i dont have much experience with linux, well. none at all really but im becoming frustrated at trying to use the damn thing.

First off installation, standard install seems ok but while trying things out something always went wrong and ended up reinstalling it. Frugal install seems popular but there is no detailed doc's to show anyone how to do this, the wiki sends you back to what frugal is, so im no further forward.

Next is my screen, I have used xorg with puppylinux and worked great however I keep getting this irratating faint flicker and barely visable horizontal lines which has led to me giving up totally on dsl cause it gives me a bloody headache all the time.

Im currently trying the latest rc as it is the only one that allows me to mount my ext dvd to play music (i have albums as mp3's on dvd).

If someone could explain in simple terms how to help me i think i can go further than 1hr here and there without thinking of just sticking with windows.

Fingers crossed
Andy

Re frugal: There are a couple extra docs and guides in the forums, download and wiki sections.  The obvious place where no one looks is at the very first page that pops up under dillo on DSL startup.

For puppylinux, you probably just have to fiddle around with your video settings, or even use kdrive on it (which im assuming you're using on DSL).

Another source of information that I have found useful ha been an article published n the net. "Google" A Closer Look at Damn Small Linux...The article URL should be linux.sys-con.com/read/244333.html...
