Hi, First post so be gentle, i had a .dsl file i put in the root of the cd and the application ran fine from ATerminal, i found a newer version of the application and its in a .tar.gz format, so i put this in the root of the cd but it seems to unarchive the files in a different location to the the .dls file. dls file goes to /ramdisk/bin - i think and .tar.gz goes to the root? This all might not make much sense as it is late but any help would be appreciated. Thanks Michael Posted by roberts on Nov. 25 2006,05:16
Always use the mydsl system to load mydsl extensions and you won't have any confusion. The mydsl-load command will handle the icon and menu items same for the boot time load options. But generally speaking .dsl would install based on / .tar.gz extensions install based on /opt However a manual tar type install will not give you your menu item or icon. A "*.tar.gz" file does not necessarily mean that it will install properly using mydsl. On the contrary, most *.tar.gz files available online are source packages, and will not install as a packaged program in DSL. You should assume that the only files that will install this way into DSL are those which are found in myDSL repositories, or specifically labeled "mydsl". Posted by roberts on Nov. 25 2006,06:17
And to follow up even more...The .tar.gz mydsl extensions should probably be dropped in favor of the .uci extension type. This will avoid the confusion of a generic .tar.gz be it source or binary. Perhaps we can begin to move in that direction. |
