I have only just got DSL, I extracted the files and put them on to a CD. I made sure my BIOS was set to boot from the CD and put the CD in the drive. I turned off the computer and turned it on again. But it still just boots to smelly old Windows :( What have I done wrong?

Was I not supposed to extract the files before writing them? I got the dsl-3.0.1.iso

Thanks for any help

The DSL Wiki has info for creating a bootable DSL CD. Look < here >

Make sure your BIOS is changed to boot CD first.

It may also be the case, that your computer needs to have the syslinux version. See the readme in the download section and if so try the dsl-x.x-syslinux.iso

Still won't .... :/ .... I used that syslinux one as well, but all I got was a 'dos prompt' .... I am using Windows XP .... I didnt think it could do that!

As roberts suggested, did you change your BIOS's boot order?

Didn't need to, it was already set up to boot from disk first. Thanks for the suggestion though

Did you burn the .iso as a cd image?  If not, there are some instructions in wiki.

And what do you get now when you try to boot off the DSL cd?
